You're probably right. It's been a long time since I've smelled paint thinner, but I don't think it bothered me as much as sharpies do. To me painter thinner has a slightly duller smell. I worked on a project for a friend a couple of years ago decorating his Xbox with sharpies, and whoa...it was maybe an hour or more before I could shake that smell! Then again, I'm rarely around strong fumes, and one who does becomes immune.
Understandable, the thinner I use is a brush cleaner and I buy it at Lowes. Its pretty strong but it works really good. Its saved a many a brush I thought was a goner from acrylic or oil paint
