I originally titled this piece "Red Warrior" after the song on the soundtrack. I'm not sure how long this piece took to render (I didn't time myself), but it began sometime in November of 2011 and was completed at the end of May 2012.
The most challenging aspect of this drawing was rendering the chain mail in the lower left hand corner. I spent more time thinking, "Um...how exactly do I approach drawing this?" than drawing the chain mail itself!

Beautiful. It's a great movie actually, in visuals, characters, sounds, emotions, and martial arts. Also apparently it's still the 5th highest grossing foreign film in Japan of all time (behind only Titanic, Frozen, Avatar and Harry Potter).
